Rest home: The Silent Killer

“ To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.” This quote proclaims and demonstrates that family should be there whenever needed. It is the exclusive existence that one can completely depend on and rely on in times of desperation and hopelessness while fighting and gearing the hardships, troubles, and difficulties of life. Family values are rules or ideas people agree upon to live by and stay true. In fact, one can’t lose sight of the dark side of sending elderly people to a residential home. Truth to be told, sending the elderly to a retirement home encapsulates a plethora of social and psychological disadvantages.

To start with, sending people into a retirement home encompasses a myriad of social disadvantages such as lessening the connection between family members and constructing the bonds between people and their racial inheritance. To start with, when people send their aged parents to a retirement house, this will damage the bond between him or her and their family since the more members of the family leave, the more the special bond each family has is damaged; it loses its spark and becomes bland and meaningless. For example,  Thomas Tremblay, a Canadian citizen, decided to send his 71 years old mother and his 86 years old father to a residential house, and by this, his brothers and sister stopped visiting him because of his actions towards their parents. In addition, dispatching elderlies to a residential home will destruct and disconnect them from their cultural heritage and ethics. For instance, the proportion of the dedication to intellectual patrimony in Europe increased to reach 43% because of the detachment of elderlies and their ethics and heritages.

Moreover, sending people to rest homes encloses a bunch of psychological negative effects such as making them isolated and creating the sense of feeling undesirable. In the beginning, and as mentioned earlier, people will suffer from freedom lack and this will affect them negatively and make them  a victim of isolation in order to eschew communication with people which can increase the risks of mental health issues such as depression, dementia, social anxiety, and low self-esteem. For example, William, a Columbian father was a victim of isolation after the only people who interacted with sent him to a rest home. Additionally, when aged people are sent to those rest homes by their children, they start feeling rejected or incompetent and that’s a total hardship that faces these people. For instance, the percentage of people who faced rejection from their families in Ukraine escalating to reach 57%.

 To wrap up, sending people especially elderlies to these homes affects the society and the psychological life of the person. It isn’t a sufficient way of living. These homes can’t support old people with care and tenderness as much as their children do. These houses are more like killers for aged people. People should be wiser than sending their parents to these houses and taking care of them on their own is a must.
