A Haven for the Elderly
“An elderly person is a mine of gold.” This quote asserts and alludes that one should cherish and respect his elderly for their knowledge, wisdom, and expertise in life which makes them as valuable as a mine of gold if not more, for family members as well as our elderly deserve all the love, affection, and care. They also expect to receive tolerance, understanding, support, respect, and assistance. Therefore, one should be there for them as they were there when he or she needed them. Also, one should be aware that he or she is his or her children’s role models, so if he or she treats his or her parents in a bad way, he or she should expect the same from his or her children, for what comes around, goes around. People around the globe tend to send their parents, the elderly, to a residential or care home in order to aim at safeguarding and protecting them at all costs. I believe that one should hold on to, protect, and ride a shotgun for his or her parents through sending them to a residential home, for this act serves pros in both social and health domains on the grandparents.

To begin with, some families find sending the grandparents to a residential care facility very cathartic, for it helps the elderly develop new friendships, and provides them with their privacy. First, a residential care facility is a home with social work supervision for people who need more than just housing accommodation, such as elderly people. Elderly people are most likely to have the same sense of humor, the same sense of criticism, and the same attitudes about stuff. “Garden n’ Gun” is a magazine that interviewed two old people at Nancy’s Care House (NCH) in Albuquerque. Nick Fury, a single 70 years old, half blind; who lost his eye back in the days, is at NCH with his best friend Carol Danvers, who is 68 years old and is provided with care at NCH. They met 3 years ago in this care home. Nick quoted: “Car and I are like two peas in a pod. Ever since I’ve met her, I’ve seen things from a new perspective. She’s like the peanut butter to my jelly.” Carol also said that she and Nick have many inside jokes together. She also said that both of them play “UNO” and checkers and lots of games together when they’re bored. Nick also said that once Carol made him trip and fall by playing “Simon Says”. The residential home (NCH) brought these two specs of dust and formed a miraculous friendship between them. This shows how the residential house gives rise to amazing companionships between these old people. Equally important, sending grandparents to a residential home provides them with more privacy. The main goal set by residential homes is providing the elderly with enough comfort. For example, elderly sleep in their own bed, use their own bathroom and continue all of their daily routines. They also have personalized care, in which they get to see their families on specific days of the week. A really good example of that is Melvis Duncan. He is a man in his 70s; he lives in a residential home and gets to go out with his niece Teddy every Wednesday and Saturday so she could take him to see baseball games with her friend Ivy. He has his own room which he picked the designs for and his own bathroom. He loves being there; at the residential house; just because he gets to be free there and gets to see his family often, he loves the way he gets treated and encourages every old person to come to the retirement house he lives in.

In addition, it is essential to send the elderly to a residential care facility for it provides the elderly with one on one attention, and provides them with medical assistance. As family members age, it becomes increasingly difficult to care for them ourselves. Busy schedules and a lack of medical training can potentially lead to declining health in our senior family members when we are not fully able to care for them. When living in a nursing home, the loved ones are offered round-the-clock, full-time care by qualified healthcare professionals and talented doctors. Should something go wrong in the middle of the night, there are typically nurses on staff that are available to come and help in an instant. During regular daytime hours, most nursing homes have highly qualified doctors for further senior care. “Aussie 101” is a magazine that once interviewed Calum Irwin, a 74 year old, in a residential facility called “Luke Hood’s National Aussie Care House”. He said that that LHNCH has provided him with all his essential health needs and also helped him with his medication. He says that he really appreciates Luke’s care house and all of the employees’ hard work in devoting all their time to help and assist him and his fellow oldies. Furthermore, if one’s beloved is on multiple prescriptions it can be confusing to manage. Home health care professionals can ensure the right medications are being taken at the right times to control health conditions and prevent harmful drug interactions. Ashton Hemmings; an old man who also lives in LINCH; was interviewed by Aussie 101 said that ever since his children put him in this care house, he hasn’t been suffering much from his disease due to the organized medication he receives from his amazing nurse Mali-Koa Hood.

As a conclusion, we should be aware of the fact that sending parents to a residential care facility can be advantageous in both the social and health domains, in which it helps them activate their social life by forming new friendships and provides them with their privacy and helps alter their health through receiving full-time care and managing their medication. After all, the elderly are a mine of gold, governmental institutions, as well as NGOs, shall work to provide the elderly with special and full-time care and their own needs.  We must stand by them no matter what, for what goes around, comes around.
