Death within Minutes Dana Sannan 9B
It was an unforgettable night. The Moon played its strange
song and engraved the fearful symphony in the villages, memories, and hearts. It
was a tune of death. Minutes were enough for the hungry monster to finish his
meal, to devour every spark of life from the village. It took him two minutes
to change everything into nothing but to me, it seemed like forever. The natural
disaster happened in the blink of an eye. And here it was the first time I
survived an earthquake.
The sky was decorated with a full moon, and the night air was
a bit cooler than any July night had the right to be. My parents were at some
neighbor’s house and I was alone with my little brother. At exactly 8:07pm,
while I was at the balcony engrossed in reading a book and somehow diving in
another world, a small shake put me back to reality “that’s strange” I thought
the chair was shaking under me perplexed, I headed inside to see whether my
brother was still awake. However, no sooner did I reach the corridor than the
earth under me started shaking vigorously. I hurried to his room and hugged him
immediately, protecting him from cement blocks falling around.
Actually,
not only was it raining glass, but flying dishes and forks were also seen
around the room. Then, it was over and everything went as quiet as two minutes
earlier. My brother was crying heavily beside me, and I was paralyzed by what
had happened. Suddenly, I remembered my mom and ran towards the door to see her
and dad standing there. It was a relief to know they were okay.
The earthquake was over, but it has put the village in complete chaos. From a bird’s eye view, the village looked like a jigsaw puzzle with some pieces
missing, and the houses looked like nothing more than a pile of stones. The
scene was horrifying. Everything was harrowing starting with the damaged houses,
to the debris and ruins, and to the tears on the kids’ faces who were so
sorrowful that even the hardest of hearts would smoothen at the scene. Our village
was no more like it was; it was damaged and cracked!
That 7.7
shaker was able to devastate the village. It was able to turn people’s lives
upside down, leaving hundreds of homeless children and orphans. It’s really
strange how two minutes can have such sweeping effects because sometimes
minutes are able to put an end to what has been built over many years.
