“Superstitions
is the poetry of life.” This quote interprets superstitions as a source of
interest, curiosity, and eagerness, where it’s the spice of life. Every culture
has its unique superstitious beliefs and even to this day in modern society it
is still widely spread and given importance. However, nothing can be more
terrifying and blood-curdling than witnessing the death of three friends all
because of a ridiculous game of truth or dare.
It
was just like any other regular day in Eastwood high when the principal
announced the start of our spring vacation after months full of stress and
pressure because of our mid-term exams. My friends and I decided to plan a get
away to release some anxiety and have an enjoyable time. Josh, who’s a member
in our crew suggested going on an adventure to a nearby city to spend the
night in a haunted house, where legend says that it witnessed the death
of all, it’s visitors who don’t play the game of truth or dare the way that the
spirit haunting this house asks them to. Our group split into two people who
were willing to take the risk and people who were highly superstitious that
were too horrified to go. We decide to settle it down by voting, I was
personally never interested in such moronic beliefs, so I decided to take the
chance and vote yes though I had a bad feeling about it, my friend Josh and
Sara agreed while tiffany and James didn’t, but we had to go since most of us
agreed.
Weirdly
it was Friday the 13th on the day we arrived, as we went in we
realized ancient furniture, cracked walls, and indigent electricity. We went upstairs to put down our stuff as we hear Josh screaming “Come see this, come see
this”. We rushed downstairs as we saw blood splattered all over the ground
saying welcome, we all thought it was some type of prank so we didn’t pay too
much attention. We started playing the game truth or dare, the questions were
simple requests with no harm since we wrote them. My friend Sara went first and
picked dare, it said to put her arm on the stove for 10 minutes, we all started
wondering who would write this and of course, we wouldn’t let her do it so she
picked another one, all of a sudden our phones rang at the same time with a
message from an anonymous person saying “You have 3 minutes”. Sara was
extremely petrified as she packs her stuff and leaves the house, an entire
electric pole falls on her and electrifies her to death on the porch. We immediately
took her to the hospital, but unfortunately, she passed away.
After
that incidence, we promised ourselves to never visit that house again. We
thought it was over here but unfortunately, it wasn’t. We were calling Josh to
go to Sara’s funeral, but he wasn’t responding, so James went to check in on
him as he saw a paper with a dare saying “You have 5 minutes to cut of all
you’re finger” and Josh who was strangled by a rope tied on the lamp with
waterfalls of blood flowing down. Josh seems like he didn’t finish the dare… It
was James, Tiffany, and I left so we agreed to go back to the house in order to
settle this once in for all. We searched in libraries for books to assist us
through what we were facing and it says to outsmart the ghost. The truth for Tiffany
was to admit her drug addiction which no one knew about until that dare, she
refused to do it, as we saw an arrow breaking through her neck. Another one was
gone. I got the dare to put acid all over me, so I thought by putting some
starch over it so it would lose it’s intensity. James survived after getting a
truth that he answered. Though I survived the death of my friends left my heartbroken.
Eventually,
not all superstitions are authentic but some definitely are. It’s something
that will grow day by day as our society develops no matter what. After all,
superstitions are most likely to keep on triggering curiosity and interest
amusing society by its mysterious existence. As once stated, “Superstitions are
a part of the culture, and the rising of a passionate mind.”
