Sports: The Preserver to Hell
“Sports tend to reflect society and we live in a
violent era. We have a violent society where people use violence to solve
problems instead of using other means.” This quote asserts and alludes that our
society is based on what we do, play, and achieve, and sports is basically the
mirror of this society, but when we have a society that is full of aggression
and violence especially in striving dilemmas, thus sports is a violent game. In
fact, one cannot lose sight of the dark side of sports accompanied by the
disadvantages that it reflects. Truth to be told, sports, the destruction of people,
encompass a plethora of disadvantages that can be seen on all of the three
domains social, physical and psychological.
To start with, sports had been a noticeable
phenomenon in our life that was unbearable and especially on the social field
such as having press chase and leading to crimes. To begin off, athletes in
sports domains basically suffer from press chase but all the times it reaches
the full limits of being unbearable. For example, Shakira and pique, a married
couple that fell into lots of rumors in splitting up and much more. Moreover,
sports lead to many crimes that also fall on the fans as well as others. For
instance, On June 17, 2013, one of the
NFL’s youngest and brightest stars, Aaron Hernandez, shot and killed Odin
Lloyd, a semi-pro football player and acquaintance of Hernandez. Hernandez was
sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Lloyd.
Moreover,
sports had played a major role in putting athletes to hazardous physical
injuries such as being subjected to dangerous injuries and facing drug abuse.
To start with, sports had led to several injuries that many athletes stopped
playing. For example, Brandon Roy was injured in his left knee that made him
retire from playing sports again. Moreover, many athletes in the world faced
drug abuse and that thinking they could be stronger, little did they know the
fatal results and dreadful consequences. One of those athletes is, Eight-time Olympic gold
medalist swimmer Michael Phelps has not only plunged into the water but into
drugs. In 2009, he lost his endorsement contract with Kellogg’s after a photo
emerged of him taking a hit of marijuana.
Added to that, sports had
influenced a lot of athletes negatively on the psychological domain such as
inflating the players’ ego and instigating aggression. To begin with, every
successful athlete becomes one of the most arrogant players, sports inflate the
player's arrogance and ego and deflate dedication, hardworking and the
efforts were down to arrive this success. For instance, Kobe Bryant has never been known for
his humility. Bryant has won five championships in his 18 years in the league,
and he loves to flaunt this number. It seems like every month Bryant tweets
something referencing his impressive total. Bryant defined the word clutch,
hitting game-winning shots left and right in his prime. Now that he is far past
his prime, Bryant does his best to make sure that his greatness is not
forgotten with new stars like LeBron James and Kevin Durant stealing the
spotlight. Moreover, sports had resulted in the born of aggressive athletes and
that because of rejecting and dismissing failure in the life or team. For
example, Luis Suarez tipped to be one of the stars of the football festival in
Brazil sank his teeth into the shoulder of his Italian opponent Giorgio Chiellini
turning his fans against him for using his mouth as a weapon.
In a nutshell, sports had a really bad influence on the three domains
that showed to what extinct in dangerous and hazardous it could be. Athletes
should start being aware of the actions that they are reflecting on society
before it too late. It’s never too late if we started getting aware of what
will happen.
