The Fortunate Hit
“Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” This quote asserts and alludes that sports do not make one’s personality, actually, sports unfold one’s charisma, the way in which one behaves on the field, during practice, and while competing against other competitors would give one a good glimpse of his/her personality which is already found in them. Sports vary between basketball, football, tennis, badminton, and golf… However, nothing is considered more astonishing, thrilling, breathtaking, and hectic than living your own experience and challenging yourself to get the best of you out.
On Friday, our last day before the weekend, the school announced that there is a basketball contest next month. My friends and I were delighted, thrilled, and aroused upon listening to such news. We were on cloud nine and full of the joys of spring for we are interested in sports, especially basketball. We directly participated in the contest and were ready to the challenge!
From the beginning, it wasn’t that bright. In our first training match, Emma, one of my friends, shot in the wrong basket, mia, another member of the team, also missed the shot for she forgot her eyeglasses at home! We were so dissatisfied and frustrated for that, but we were going to lose anyway so we didn’t give that much attention. Our friend, Jasmine, who didn’t participate in the contest and was the only supporting friend sitting on our stadium, was the only one who encouraged us and adviced us not to make a big fuss about it, it's just a game. We went to a coffee shop after being cheesed off with what happened today, but that didn’t block out our way neither build a stone wall to our success. In fact, what happened that day wasn’t the only problem we were facing. Actually, we had neither good outfits nor a trainer that would improve our skills and talents and reveal them. And what worsened our situation and disappointed us more is that Mia broke her leg and she wouldn’t play with our team on Friday, the day of the competition.
Being beside each other, boosted our confidence that we can improve, recuperate, and skyrocket to reach our goals. Well, actions speak louder than words, so we had to start working to fathom our dilemmas. We started in searching for a trainer, it was difficult to find one but at the end and at the edge of giving up we convinced Victoria’s uncle, Henry, a self-trainer, to train us. It was hard for him to reveal and recover our talents and skills in basketball, but in the end, we succeed. Moreover, with the help of Stephanie's talent in sewing, we were able to make our own stunning outfits. Also, we revealed Jasmin’s fascinating talent in basketball so she played instead of Mia. Today is the day, it is Friday, the day of the contest, the day we were waiting to show our skills.
That day, we won the match, the experience was overwhelming and outstanding. We won the match in the last 10 seconds when I shot that fortunate hit at the basket and changed the draw. Through this exposure, it was obvious that the succession in something, whether playing sports or doing anything you love is due to one main reason which is self-confidence and hard working. This competition not only provided a platform to test myself, but it also bolstered up and modernized my self-confidence, and spurred me to dream higher.
