Self-Confidence: Tool of Survival
“Human beings experience a variety of emotions, yet they often deal with their problems differently.” This quote implies that people face innumerable experiences which trigger numerous reactions. For instance, by the time one might give up and surrender when facing a certain calamity, someone else would be armed with self-confidence and determination to overcome any hardship. Self-confidence is an essential cornerstone in one’s life since it aids him to surmount his adversities and calamities of any sort, strengthens him against discrimination and mockery, and equips him with the courage to never surrender.
To begin with, one of the main reasons why self-confidence is vital in one’s life is that it helps him combating all his hardships and hindrances. To illustrate, Colonel Sanders (1890-1980), whose father died at age of 5, quit the school at age 16 and lost about 4 jobs at age 17. His wife left him and took their baby at the age of 20 after only 2 years of marriage. He became a cook in a small café and convinced his wife to return home. At age 65, he retired, he felt like a failure and decided to commit suicide. He sat writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished in his life and thought about how good of a cook he was. So, he borrowed $87, fried up some chicken using his recipe, went door to door to sell. At age 88, Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)Empire was a billionaire.
Another reason why self-confidence is important is that it strengthens one against discrimination, segregation, and mockery. For example, Rosa Parks who was a woman armed by self-esteem encountered an accident to test her self-assurance which made her known as “The First Lady of Freedom”. It was December 1,1995 in Montgomery, a segregated city in that time, Rosa had settled in her seat on the bus after a hard day's work. All the seats on the bus had filled up when a white man boarded. The bus driver told Rosa and some other African-Americans to stand up, but Rosa refused. The bus driver said he would call the police, but Rosa didn't move. Soon the police showed up and Rosa was arrested. she taught all people like her a moral lesson and the most necessary gun they defend themselves by in their life.
Furthermore, self-assurance provides one with vigor and bravery to never think of giving up. As an example, Rowan Atkinson who was born in a middle-class family and his father was a farmer, He got admission to Oxford University because of his hard work. But, he was rejected in the acting domain in the same university due to his speaking disorder although he was enrolled in that domain. Also, he was refused in TV shows because he was stammering a lot and he didn’t have a heroic body and beautiful face. Despite all that, Rowan didn’t give up and realized that he can speak fluently in characters other than him. So, he proved everyone wrong and he started his own show “Mr. Bean”, which became a global success. Today, Rowan is one of the most famous celebrities of all time who has a net worth of $132 million.
To sum it up with, the cruciality of self-confidence lurks in the capability of confronting any hardship, combating discrimination and bestowing a courageous spirit. Self-confidence is a mirror on which our personality is displayed. Our self-esteem is like a muscle, the more we use it, the stronger it gets. Once a person has a heart brought by self-assurance, instead of chasing success, it will attract itself to him.
