A Day to Remember
“Man lives in a world of surmise, of mystery, of
uncertainties.” This quote alludes on how common enigmas are in one’s life for
he or she can’t fathom and decode them entirely without having doubts. Puzzles
can be developed when one experiences odd incidents that make them question their
existence like a ghost encounter or plenty of other paranormal phenomena. I am
still haunted daily and scarred from the accident that is carved in my brain giving
me nightmares that remind me of the day I almost died.
Last summer, on a hot sunny day, my father thought it was a
good idea to go swimming in the lake beside our house. When I got out of the
front door, I felt the breeze throughout my spine giving me chills for the
whole day. People usually say that a swim in this lake would freshen you up and
clear your mind from worries and concerns but I’d say otherwise. Every time I
go into this lake, the feeling of calmness and relief fills up my whole body
with its warm water, but this time, the water was cold and the fish were not to
be seen. And that’s when I found out something wasn’t right.
I
tried to ignore my feelings of suspicion and wariness, then kept swimming with
my father who belittled the situation into thin air after I have informed him
about my theory. The inkling of anxiousness grew inside me when I first jumped
into the lake but I shoved it to the back of my head to enjoy my time with my
dad. When my dad got up to get me the towel that I forgot to bring, I felt
something touching my feet, which I presumed was just the fish but that thought
quickly disappeared when it started pulling on my leg leaving me to hold onto a
floating log that held me up enough to let me yell for help. My heart beat
became faster and stronger to hear, I could’ve sworn it was about to
fall off and run away.
I
was practically freaking out, “is this the way I’m going to die?” that question
kept going through my mind. I was almost suffocating without oxygen when I was
being pulled to the deep dark bottom. I struggled to reach the surface while
kicking the creature beneath me. A few more tries later, I was able to be
released from its grip. I took one last look upon it to see a black shadowy
figure swimming away at an unusual speed leaving me puzzled. I rushed to the
surface and when I reached it I felt relieved as if I have won a noble prize
but in fact, I have something even more important which is my life. I never
found out what the creature was, and I’m always wondering why it would ever do
that.
In
the end, mysteries and eerie incidents are what create our curiosity, and
without it, we wouldn’t be able to achieve so many great things in life because
“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed.”
