Sports: A Necessity to Existence
“That's one thing you learn in sports. You don't give up; you fight to the finish.” This quote portrays that sports tend to teach players how to keep going on and not yielding when standing against any hindrance and that arming players with self-confidence to tackle any obstacle is the main goal of sports. One can’t ignore the countless benefits of sports. In fact, sports carry with it numerous benefits of sports such as strengthening the friendship among people and nations, improving one’s health, and improving self-esteem.
To begin with, strengthening the friendship among people and nations is one of the advantages of sports. To start with, playing with other players as a team is a must in sports. By playing together, they tend to reinforce the bonds between them and to play as one player in the field, they will be playing as different bodies and mind but one heartbeat. Players’ closest friends are those who they’ve met through their involvement in sports. They sweat together, fight with each other; compete for positions and sometimes play against one another; those help them to identify similar qualities and interests. When they are a part of the team there is nothing more important than those relationships they build on the fields of battle. Also, sports by playing against other teams from other countries tend to strengthen the bond between those nations and their team members and bring them closer together.
In addition to that, sports have another advantage which is improving one’s health. To initiate with, sports assist in controlling a serious health problem or helping in coping with it. As an illustration, scientific researchers have claimed that diabetes which a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood can be controlled using exercise. Due to exercise, the level of blood sugar is lowered, which if becomes low or high, can become a real burden and problem to the patient. In the long run, improving the condition of the heart and circulatory system may be the most important reason for people with diabetes to exercise regularly. Furthermore, sports are a good supporter to kids with ADHD which stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a medical condition; a person with this disease has differences in brain development and brain activity that affect attention, the ability to sit still, and self-control. A common issue with ADHD kids is to find something to help them gain confidence and self-esteem; they can use sports as a vehicle for making and having friends, and healthy activities like sports are better than sitting alone or in front of the television. Kids with this disease often isolate themselves from other kids, by using sports they would get more involved with others, as sports offer lots of interaction with others in addition to physical fitness.
Another advantage of sports is boosting one’s confidence. A number of studies offer support to the claim that sports and other physical activities can contribute to the development of self-esteem. For instance, Canadian scientists found that sixth grade students’ boys and girls who were more physically active had considerably higher levels of self-esteem. This finding was corroborated by another Canadian team, who also highlighted the potentially harmful role that obesity plays in the equation. A study in Switzerland found that adolescents who participated in sports clubs had greater well-being, including being better socially adjusted, feeling less anxious, and generally being happier about their lives. Similar findings were reported in a study of Latino students, where participation in school sport was found to be significantly associated with self-esteem.
All in all, sports help players and even people through reinforcing the bonds with others, enhancing one’s health, and uplifting one’s self-assurance. Sports are a must in life, and everyone should practice them, even if not on daily basis. Sports represent a healthy and happy life. And as it is said “Good, better, best. Don’t let it rest, until your good is a better and your better is the best.”
